Out with the old
Removing the old cages!
The old enclosures being torn down in preparation for new modern enclosures and play areas. Volunteers and local construction companies assisted in the work.

Site of old Chimpanzee Pens
This empty area is where a line of pens used to be for the last several decades. They have now been removed in preparation for Sanctuary upgrades. The new chimp building can be seen in the background.

Creating a swing from an old tire
Proper enrichment items are very important to the welfare of the primates. Here, two volunteers create a swing from some heavy hose and an old tire for the new chimpanzee enclosure.

Example of Chimpanzee Enclosure
This photo shows a great example of one of the new chimp enclosures in the new building. The hanging 'pipe swing' was completely designed and installed by volunteer workers!


Hose Job
Volunteers cleaning monkey cages
Two volunteers hosing out the monkey cages. All the animal care and upkeep for the Sanctuary is currently done by local volunteers who dedicate their free time to the primates.
