Larry
is a baboon that has had the good fortune to retire
at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary a non-profit
animal sanctuary dedicated to animals like Larry.
Larry came from a medical research facility and was
being used for medical experimentation. He has
lived at our sanctuary for about twenty years.
When Larry first arrived he was in terrible
condition. Emotionally traumatized he was very
neurotic and had developed a bad habit of plucking
all of the hair from his arms and legs until they
were bald. After several months of gentle
encouragement and one on one time with care givers
he began to be a little less nervous. In addition
to his nervous habits, Larry was overweight and had
horrible social skills. He had to learn how to be a
monkey and how to play with toys.
Now several years and lots of TLC later, Larry is
socialized next door to another monkey named Buddy.
Larry has finally accepted toys and various play
items. He has a favorite olive barrel that he
spends many hours of the day resting his head and
basking in the sun. Larry loves raw corn on the cob
and grapes. His favorite color seems to be red, and
likes to watch cartoons on television.
