Otto the Gorilla Passes away
On Saturday, June 2nd, Otto the silverback gorilla
who was one of the most beloved animals at the
Sanctuary passed away after a brief illness.
Otto was the first animal I worked with when I first
volunteered at the Sanctuary seven years ago.
At 550 pounds, he could be very intimidating, but
was one of the most gentle and peaceful primates at
the Sanctuary. For more information about our
dear friend, please click on this
LINK.
Top Fundraising Volunteers!
Merilitta and Lowel Bloodworth for handling
the poinsetta booth and Art in the Park.

Special thanks!
Thank you Starbucks for the volunteers who
helped to build a brand new tortoise compound and to
the Home Shopping Channel for continued support and
for sending volunteers on a regular basis!

Thank you for your support!
We thank all members of the community, groups that
donate money and Wish List items to our animals.
We understand some people do not wish to give cash
to an organization without knowing how it is spent.
If you would like, you can donate directly to our
suppliers to help the animals. Some of the
main expenses we have are: Smelt Feed and Pet
Supply, 4116 E
7th Ave. Tampa, FL 33605, 800-827-2473. Smelt
accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
We normally spend around $200 per month for animal
food from Smelt. You can call
Verizon to
help pay the office telephone bill at
1-800-483-5000, Progress Energy at
464-4000 to help with the water bill. Our
electric is used to run refrigerators and a freezer
to preserve our animal food as well as lighting for
the Great Ape House and office. Also, during
the cold months we put electric heaters on the
animal houses. We hose all enclosures 2 times
a day and use water in the food preparation area to
clean fruits and vegetables.
